Philip II vs. Louis XIV

Question: Philip II of Spain (1556-1598) built the Escorial and Louis XIV of France (1643-1715) built Versailles. Starting with the pictures of these palaces shown below, analyze the similarities and differences in the conception and practice of monarchy between these two kings.

It looks as if Philip II was a vain man bulding the Escorial all for himself like a home, while Louis XIV was bulding some sort of strong home/public dwelling or government area for his country. The siilarities though seem to be that they both had a taste for elegance and beauty.
