Nationalism and Liberalism effected women in modern Europe because of the change it brought about. Nationalism encouraged the fact of feminism and the production of new social classes. Also the women were looked down upon. They mainly did dirty work, like working in mines or servants to other families. The Liberal Ideals throughout Europe were becoming well-known and the emphazising of individual rights occured. This ideal sought a society characterized by freedom of thought for individuals, limitations on power (especially of government and religion), the rule of law, the free exchange of ideas, a market economy that supports free private enterprise, and a transparent system of government in which the rights of all citizens are protected. This gave women an oppurtunity to excel in careers and life.

I think that both nationalism and liberalism had positive effects and negative effects on women. When you look on the positive side of the changes it brought in their lives... it brought fourth pride in being a woman[ not that is wasn't there ].
Nationalism reintroduced "new social order" where in which women we not viewed as "sufficient". This created a bond or somewhat a unity between women. Liberalism and their "laws" allowed women in a sense their freedom... they were able to do what they want. Unfortunately at the moment this wasn't common. Eventually as time progresses as well with women's rights.

The status of women has changed many times in history; they gain some freedoms and by some force they are sometimes taken away. Nationalism, as well as liberalism, inspired the revolutions of 1848.Nationalism convinced many women that they need to better their county by becoming more involved. So during those revolutions women activist decided to try and gain more recognition. Liberalist women wanted to gain there own rights and equality. The women organized "Voix des femmes," which was a newspaper that addressed the issues of women. Bothe middle-class and working women joined in this. But like many women and workers they were turned down and forbidden to be politically active. Also as a result the two leaders of women activist clubs were arrested and sent to jail, which made many women fearful of going against the law.LIberlism and nationalism gave women the courage to fight for their rights but in the end they were just turned down.

Hillkid-

Women in the European society have always found themselves at the bottom, doing the dirty work, with little pay; or even required to just do the common domestic duties. When Liberalism came around women had a new freedom and many took advantage of it. As beccaxlynn has said they created a daily newspaper called Voix des Femmes, the women’s voice, in 1848. Through this paper women formed a political group that fought for equal rights, however this group had failed by 1852. Nationalism provided women with the chance to be involved. Nationalist women were fighting for their own rights too. Unfortunately they did not succeed any more than liberalists. Both groups of women spoke out more during the rise of the “ism” but wouldn’t succeed in equal rights until more awareness was created.

You said “Nationalism encouraged the fact of feminism and the production of new social classes. Also the women were looked down upon.” Are you trying to point out that Nationalism encouraged women, but at the same time they still weren’t the ideal gender in society? I am a little confused by this. However everything else is well stated and supported.

ChrisdeBelen
Once again I agree with Beccaxlynn. If you would have used more historical facts to support your response it would be a lot more stronger. You could have stated what liberalism laws allowed woman a sense of freedom. Nevertheless I do agree with you when you stated that nationalism and liberalism had positive and negative affects.

Liberalism and Nationalism had certain similarities and differences on the status of women. Liberalism stressed individual liberties. Therefore, it had a great impact on women, women were encouraged to address their concerns. The Voix des femmes was organized, to voice women's opinions on how women's conditions were not getting better just because the men's were. Jeanne Deroin and Pauline Roland were the leaders in the attempts to improve the economic situation for working class women. But they were arrested. So liberalism allowed women the idea to express their individual rights. Nationalism's impact on women was different. Here women did not have much freedom to voice their opinions, and were trying to find themselves. Women did not have as much freedom under nationalism as opposed to liberalism. Nationalism and liberalism had different impacts on the status of women.

I agree with you on how nationalism brought a new social order. HEre women were not even considered as important. Therefore, the women got together, leading to liberal ways of expressing their opinion and encouraging individual rights.

I also agree with you and I love how you put detail in your answer. I like how you mentioned that nationalism and liberalism were inspired by the revolutions of 1848. I also agree with you on the Voix des femmes, how it was a result of liberalism because women wanted to gain rights and equality.

Liberalism and nationalism effected women in similar but also different ways. Women were used to being looked down on and doing the hard work for low wages. So when liberalism brought individual rights women were beginning to speak up for themselves and have their own ideas. The Voix des femmes, a newspaper developed to educate women about their rights. Women of nationalism tried to fight for equal rights but weren’t as successful as liberalist women. They weren’t as brave and strong because of other women going to jail and they didn’t want that to happen to themselves. Liberalism and nationalism brought faith in women to fight for their equality but they would have to keep fighting.

In response to beccaxlynn
I liked how you used examples to support what you wrote. I also agree with how you explained the Voix des femmes. Also that women got the courage to fight for their rights I agree.

I liked how you described nationalism you gave many examples of it. Also how nationalism and liberalism had different effects.

Nationalism affected women greatly because it allowed them to be more social with each other. They were allowed to form groups publicly and talk about issues that were at concern for them. Voix des Femme was one of their social groups. The effect of Liberalism played an important role on the status of women. For starters women were able to organize the Voix des Femmes (The woman's voice) which was a newspaper that addressed issues that concerned women. After this newspaper was organized they soon formed a social group with the same intensions. Also since women were such involved they got involved with men and their social groups. However there were some negative aspects of liberalism. Such as the fact the government closed down alot of their social groups and would no longer let them work at their national workshops. They also no longer let them partiipate with political groups and men. I think overall that although there were postive affects of nationalism and liberalism on women in the end the negative affects just condraticted them so women just ended up at square one again.

I like how you looked at the negative effects of Nationalism and the postive effects of Liberalism, however you could of also done the positive effects of nationalism and the negative affects of liberalosm with more historical detais.

Beccaxlynn
I like your comparisons with the revolutions of 1848 however you didn't give much detail about it.

Liberalism had an effect on women because they wished to have differences. with everyone wanting to have their own rights, it also included the women. they were tired of having the dirty jobs, they were also tired of being stepped on. whenever liberalism come around they were relieved, but what came with liberalism was conservatism.and they made women lose hope. conservatists were people who didn't want change that included women havinga different role in soceity.this discouraged women because it was just another thing they had to fight with. whenever liberalism was covered up by conservatism, nationaism come into the picture. it was helpful to the women like liberalism. it was what made the revoltions happen during 1848. women after that began to stick up for themselves and fight for individual rights!

Nationalism and Liberalism effected women in similar and different ways. Nationalism made the status of women more prevalent in working together and getting involved in the well being of the feminine population. Liberalism was much of the same except in had more radical resorts such as womens right activity and feminists who pretty much wanted the status of women flipped around so that men were second class citizens. Nationalists were more casual about it than the liberalist who wanted all ther econcerns to be voiced out through media of the day. Careers were unfair to be limited by sex, thought the liberals which led to a more blatant excercise of womens right s rather taan Nationalists who were passionate the same did not resort to tactics of liberals but felt that wroking together to achieve a common goal or cooperation was needed to make it happen.

Okay

becaxxlyn: love how you brought up the newspaper Voix de femmes in your blog. It is a tangible piece of supporting fact about the liberalists point of view. Out of sight!

Krista Rae:
I like how you brought up the old regime of thinking. The way women were at that time is a well comparison to emphasize the change that these idealogies had on the status of women. Good job!

Nationalism had an impact on the status of women through the promotion of feminism and the creation of a new social class. Women were percieved as the ones who did the undesireable work and who recieved little if no respect. Nationalism gave women a chance to participate and gave them some freedom. Liberalism gave women permission to practice their individual rights. Liberalism gave women a chane to be successful in their carrers and lives. Nationalist women were not able to express their opinions as liberal women were, so they did not really excel in the equal rights they were striving for.

Nationalism had a more positive impact on the status of women than Liberalism. Some of the goals of nationalism were to establish a political framework of legal equality, religious toleration, and of the press. Most nineteenth century goals lied on the basis of vesting more power with the wealthy rather than with those whose who were born to a certain lineage. However, liberalism did provide an avenue for women to reach out to other women via the newspaper. This is evident with the publication of "Voix des Femmes."

I agree with your views on nationalism and how it brought about social order. I'd like to add that in a perfect world liberalism would have emancipated women of their social shackles and solidified women suffrage but it didn't. While liberalism gave hope to women and provided a voice for them it did not solve their problems. It appears that a significant number of my peers fail to acknowledge this.

I'd like to commend you for pointing out that women didn't gain all of their rights even with the emergence of liberalism and nationalism. Your blog entry was factual and very precise.

Growing nationalism and liberalism both had their own good and bad effects on the status of women. On one side, nationalism brought the realization to women that something needed to be done to change their social status. Of course, there had already been some other small revolts by women, but this was the bringing of the mindset of feminism. Although, this just stuck in their minds because there still wasn't much freedom for women and women struggled to start anything during this time. With the coming of Liberalism, women could finally, though still not fully, fight. Women could finally address their concerns because liberalism had focused so much on individual rights. These even ended up partly inspiring the revolutions of 1848.

I agree with everything you said. You gave great exammples like the "Voix des femmes". I actually forgot about that until i read your response.

I like how you explained yourself so that i really understood everything you said. Like there was backup to everything you stated. And of course, i also agree with all you stated.
